Rebuilding your confidence after the trauma of divorce

On Behalf of Tickle Law Office, PLLC | Mar 1, 2023 | blog, Family Law

Divorce has its way of diminishing your self-esteem and leaving you feeling broken and hopeless. You might feel concerned about the uncertainty of your finances, career and relationships.

Without adequate support, you could spiral into severe mental and emotional trauma. Pushing through the challenges and rebuilding your confidence will require time and self-awareness.

Maintain your dignity

You will undoubtedly encounter moments where you feel inadequate. Situations that cause angst and fear about the future. This could cause you to act defensively or want to do or say things that cause harm to your ex. However, allowing your emotions to take over will only exacerbate your situation and could have long-lasting repercussions.

Bitterness and anger will prevent you from being able to move on with your life. Regardless of your challenges, do your best to maintain your dignity. Act with professionalism and poise. Take the higher road and keep your focus on the big picture.

Celebrate your accomplishments

Recognize that despite the disappointments brought on by your divorce, you can continue working toward your achievements. According to CNBC, one survey revealed that nearly half of the participants blamed divorce for causing a negative impact on their careers. However, the other half of the participants said their split provided opportunities for growth and success.

Look for ways that your divorce has improved your life. Set new goals for your future and strategize plans for how you will accomplish them. Celebrate the progress you make and turn your sights to the next goal you have.

Keeping your focus in the right place and taking care of your needs will enable you to move on. Prioritizing your growth may improve your confidence and give you the tools to get past your divorce for good.
