Speeding tickets do not come cheap

On Behalf of Tickle Law Office | Aug 27, 2020 | Uncategorized

If you drive a car, you have likely crept over the speed limit at some point. Few of us drive with our eyes on the needle. It can be easy to go faster than you realize when your foot settles into a comfortable position on the pedal.

A speeding ticket may not seem like a huge deal. Yet, the true cost of a ticket could be much higher than you imagine.

A recent report by Nerdwallet looked at the real cost of a North Carolina speeding ticket.

  • Fine: Often less than $50 but can be up to $250 depending on the details.
  • Court costs: Around $190.
  • Increased insurance premiums: Your insurance premium will automatically go up anywhere between 30% to 80% for a speeding ticket. If you are convicted of racing, it could increase much more.
  • Revoked license: If you are 15 mph over the speed limit and driving over 55 mph,or going over 80 mph, you will lose your license for at least three months. If you do it twice in a year, you lose it for six months. Other factors and repeat offenses can increase the amount of time you lose your license for.
  • Loss of employment: If your job involves driving, you may be required to have a clean license. So one speeding ticket outside of work could leave you jobless.
  • Inconvenience: If you lose your license, you will need to find alternative ways to get to work, pick your kids up from sports practice and go about your daily life. This will affect all your family, not just you.

Now you have a better understanding of the real costs of a North Carolina speeding ticket; seek legal help if you wish to contest one.
